"One ugly motherfucker" Quite possibly one of the best lines in all of cinema. To me and my movie buddies its easily "Go! Run! Get to the choppa!!" I always get a smile and when I hear that line. One's just awesome, the other is a homage to all that is Arnold.
Predator showcases how a movie should be made. I think it's just a wonderful film. A few flaws here and there, but that goes for every movie. I love it when they take a story of epic proportions and dumb it down to a more simple story.
The story of Predator is a simple but effective one. A group of elite men go into the jungle to save some hostages. On their way out they are attacked and one by one picked off by the Predator. That right there is ALL this movie is about, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It also doubles as a great action flick too, so there's plenty of gunfire and explosions sprinkled throughout the film. The thing that makes the story so good, in my opinion, is the attention to detail. I'm a detail person, and it's nice to watch a movie with little to no inconsistencies. It flows very well from beginning to end, you just can't wait to find out what happens next.
I've seen the movie at least 20 times, and it never ceases to amaze me how much I like Predator. Maybe its cuz I just love the Predator alien, or Arnold's action flicks, or both! It was just genius bringing the two together.
The special effects are astounding. The Predator face alone is a work of art. The gore sequences were not only well shot, but just great looking. My favorite scene being when the Predator tears out Billy's spine. Awesome. The look of Predator's camouflage was also one of the landmark effects that made this movie so good. Other than that, lots of bullets and lots of explosions.
Predator is a movie that really any fan of action or horror needs to see. It's one of those landmark films that puts its mark on the genre and is talked about for decades. This review for example lol. Check it out if you already haven't, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Mosquito (1995)
The acting...bad, the special effects...horrid, the humor...absurd, the plot...non-existant, the musical score...unbearable, and yet this movie is awesomely bad. Mosquito takes everything about a bad film and makes it great. I first caught it at 3am on the SciFi channel and later bought a bootleg copy on DVD (because the real DVD goes for OVER $100.00 online)
I wasn't sure I would like it or not, being it was made in 1995, but it was made in a way that it comes off like a cheesy 80s horror flick and I loved it. You have to have a bad taste in movies to like anything about this film. It's a great film to gather a bunch of friends, get drunk, and just laugh your head off at it.
Throughout the film, there always seems to be conveniently placed items that the people in this film would so desperately need to complete whatever task they were doing. Like a well placed hatchet, TONS of rope, or even a Winnebago. I was actually quite surprised as to how well the Mosquitoes themselves were designed and moved. Most of the time they weren't half bad, unless they were moving in front of the green screen. And the make-up effects on the people that had all the blood sucked out of them was done very well. It did look like they were sucked dry, so mad props to those people. I'm just happy they didn't use any kind of CGI, which I have to give credit to the filmmakers. Though it may have been a little early to be using it in lower budget films at the time.
The main reason you need to see this movie is for Gunnar Hansen. For those of you that don't know, he played the original Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This time he's out slaughtering giant mosquitoes but he eventually does come across a tasty chainsaw and the film gives a special nod to TCM. "I haven't held one of these in 20 years!" YES! That's fuckin awesome.
I recommend you add this forgettable title to your bad movie collection and laugh your head off. Its all your going to get out of it. What more can you expect out of a terribly low budget horror flick? Nothing, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Creature (1985)
Do you like Horror? Do you like Science Fiction? Do you like ridiculous space stories that make absolutely no sense? Are you sick of watching Alien (1979) and looking for the next best thing? Well my friend, Creature is the movie for you.
Move over Alien because Creature is here. Well it was here... 25 years ago. But regardless it was there and kicking ass. Now to be completely honest, Alien was obviously an influence on this film, as it was multiple others throughout the 80's but Creature actually ends up being pretty entertaining and not a complete waste of time. Like I always say...its always good for a lazy saturday night when your dateless, friendless, and you just can't stand to watch any more porn on the internet.
So I bet you want to know if its gory right? I mean, a movie of this calibur absolutely has to have the gore factor if its going to reel anybody in to watch it. Oh yeah theres some fair gore here. I'll tell you its nothing new or outrageous but there's plenty of blood. The opening kill was the best I thought. Just a huge rush of blood inside the dude's spacesuit. It was great. But mostly the alien creature just likes to grab a hold of its victims and naw on their neck awhile. That's really all it does. The other, and more creative angle to this movie, is the little brain suckers. They look kind of like scorpion things that attach to your face somehow and they control you. So they can lets say...call up your buddies and give you the all clear when in actuality...the scary monster is waiting for you. Genius I tell you, nobody and I mean NOBODY could have ever thought up something so great. *cough* sarcasm *cough*. I'm kidding, it was kind of cool though. As far as some other gore...torn limbs, shredded faces, and big teeth. That's some good stuff right there.
So what makes this movie so awful is the sheer stupidity of all the characters. Honestly found myself yelling at them for being so dumb. *SPOILER* Alright so this guy gets knocked out for a spell, wakes up and his girlfriend (who just died horribly 2 scenes ago) is standing outside, IN SPACE, without her helmet on, waving him to come outside. After he foolishly seeks her out, she proceeds to get naked for some reason, IN SPACE, then walks over to him and wants to take his helmet off. This guy is either delirious or a complete moron...probably both. Well anyways he dies and a lot of other dumb shit happens *END SPOILER*
There's some familiar cast members here. Wendy Schaal, who is completely adorable and extremely hot, is part of the main cast. You probably know her better for her voice...Francine of American Dad. Also some others that I can't decipher right now. But they're there. They spout off some good lines once in awhile. The creepy german guy macking on the female security chief was pretty hilarious. Also the apparent psychic chick looking off into space, "We aren't coming back, I can feel it. Make love to me." hahahaha awesome. Unnecessary sex scene with NOTHING to look at. What the hell man!?
So in the end I guess I liked it. The effects were very well done. According to the box it won some awards for its effects. The alien creature itself wasn't there all that much but it didn't look so bad. It's more or less a lot of dumb characters portrayed by a lot of crappy actors thrown into a stupid situation trying to survive the super badass alien creature. But I guess in the end all that matters is that this film, for better or worse, is FILLED with lot and lots of expendables.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: AVP: Alien vs Predator (2004)
Alien vs Predator is ok for your average mindless moviegoer, but for a fan of any Predator or Alien movie it is a massive disappointment. Such though that I'm writing this review while I'm watching the movie. It's almost over, but I doubt I'll need to finish it to display my anger towards it.
The first problem with it is Paul W.S. Anderson. What the hell is wrong with you? Stop making movies in your own vision, cause it doesn't work. Example...Resident Evil. It's an ok movie on its own, but to the fans of the games, its complete shit. Now we have AVP which is basically a Resident Evil adaptation within the AVP world.
I never had high expectations for it, but I had higher expectations than what they delivered. Lets take everything about the original films and forget the facts and make this damn thing. My biggest complaint is the Predators. I always thought they hunted alone, and WHY WHY WHY did it combine forces with that woman? I think he was just trying to show some honor in it, but come on, they've been hunting humans too. Or did we forget? Also the blades attached to their arms, they're at least 5 feet too long....and how the hell do you fuck up one of the greatest lines in all of cinema. A predator takes off his mask, you look at him in disgust, and say "You're one ugly motherfucker!" But no, lets say it about an alien instead, and cut off the motherfucker to get a PG-13 rating. Dicks.
I can't count the amount of times I rolled my eyes in the film. Everytime somebody said something or the Predators did something I was just like...What the Fuck? Its like the Predator has a new friend with this chick. There's so damn many things wrong with it that its hard to write them all down. They didn't even show the Predator repair himself. When he did take off his mask...yikes. That's the worst rubber job of all the Predator movies. Fucking Halloween masks are better.
The story itself is just stupid. Nothing coincides with events of the other movies. I'm a detail person and I hate it when they don't take the time to get the facts straight or make it even remotely believable. The one guy seemed to be a copy-cat of Scotty from the original Star Trek. When I closed my eyes I could just picture it.
The only good qualities of the movie are Lance Henrikson and the special effects. It was a joy to see ol Lance in an Alien film again. That in itself is a double edger, with the exception of the Alien franchise, every horror sequel that stars Lance Henrikson is just terrible. I assume they write a shitty script to an alright movie and while they're trying to figure out a way to market it to the horror fans, they just say fuck it and cast Lance Henrikson.
There were a few "inside" things that fans of the original films would pick up on, but not enough to make it good. The special effects in the movie were pretty decent. The creature effects were well done aside from rubberface and even the CGI was pretty good. I always get a little tingle inside seeing the Alien and Predator face to face on the screen. First with the mask on, and second with the Queen and mask off. But that's really the only joy I get from watching this movie.
If you've never seen it, its worth a watch. If you're a die hard fan of the original series you will be disappointed but chances are you have watched it or will, just because you have to. Its just a lot of flashy action sequences and vague references to the films. It may have been a good movie if it wasn't the Alien and Predator creatures facing off, but since it was, I didn't much care for it.
Maybe they'll redeem themselves in AVP:R...or not.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Alien: Resurrection (1997)
What the fuck happened? Let's take a great series and culminate the things that make them all wonderful, mash them together, piss on it, unfold it out and make this film. A movie like this deserves a "the good, the bad, & the ugly" type review. Paragraphs with the ** have spoilers.
The Good: If you're a gore whore, this film's for you. This alien movie is the grossest of them all. Showing some of the coolest deaths I've ever seen from the alien bursting out of a man's chest and through another man's skull to the final alien hybrid being sucked through a quarter size hole in the hull of the ship. The best part of this film is without a doubt....Ron Perlman. In the past couple years this man has grown on me, and all of his characters are wonderful. This guy has tons of great lines, scenes, and his character has an all around coolness to him. I also like Brad Dourif, not just in this film, but in everything he does. I'm not sure why, maybe its the man or maybe its his voice, but I just like him. He's so creepy.
The Alien special effects were done wonderfully. The queen looked great, the close ups of the aliens looked good, and even the cgi aliens didn't look half bad. They progressively get better and better with each new film. The CGI aliens anyway. It was nice to get a clear close up shot of the aliens instead of shaky cameras and quick glimpses.
The Bad: The majority of the actors were worse than good but better than shitty. So I'm not really sure how to say it. There are FAR too many cliche lines throughout the film. Such as spasticly screaming "What the fuck was that thing?" "Fuck Man" Fuck fuck fuck. Calm down, I'm sure that's how it'd really be but I get so tired of these types of characters. I don't really know if it works without them, but come on.
Ripley. The first three films Ripley was generally terrified of the aliens and had a huge desire to kill them all. In this one she's Ripley's clone and fears virtually nothing, has little to no emotion, and acts like a mother to the aliens. She....cares for them. Come on Ripley, KICK THEIR ASS!! That was Ripley's role in this movie, but I didn't like it.
I'm not sure what the director was smoking during the filming of this, but he should probably share it. He's probably a great director and most of the film is ok, but just various scenes throughout, he seemed like he was OVER-directing. Trying to hard and showing too much to accomplish something that could have easily been just a single shot. Some of the dissolve, dissolve, dissolve scenes were unnecessary in my opinion.
The Ugly: I actually started asking myself halfway through the film...who's that guy? Like two characters just showed up while they were escaping. There were so many inconsistencies and unnecessary scenes throughout this thing that I was starting to get annoyed with it. The whole scene were Ripley sees her previous clones. I kind of understand what's going through her head and its supposed to be powerful, but I thought it took away from the film.
The whole "twist" of this film was stupid. I didn't understand why they thought they had to take it in that direction. The first one had the alien, the second one had the queen, the third one showed it inherits traits of the host, and this one gives the queen the ability to reproduce like a human....in a womb. First off, if the queen has a womb, where the hell did the eggs come from in the beginning. If she did mutate through the film and get a womb, why does it look like a human/alien hybrid. Shouldn't it be more...alienish? I thought they tried to hard to bring in something new to the genre and ended up hurting it in the process.
The whole film just had too much of a spin-off of itself type feel to it. Sort of how Bride of Chucky throws out the formula of its predecessors and does something different. I liked what they did there, but I just felt so cheated with this film.
In summary, Resurrection stands fair on its own, but up against the previous three...its just not up to par.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Alien3 (1992)
"Guys! My door ain't workin...we ought to rethink this!!" My favorite line in the film. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but this is my personal favorite of the alien quadrilogy. They are all pretty awesome films in their own way, but this one stands out as my favorite, combining the suspense and terror of the first one and the movement and action of the second one.
Alien3 takes place after the events of the second film. The cryo-escape pod launched and crash landed on a planet that also happens to be the home to several prisoners....and that's all. Of course, there's an alien on board.
The third film in the series brings on a new aspect to the alien creature which I found not only logical but very intriguing and unique. The alien embryo inherits traits of the host. Thus far its all been human hosts, so they've all walked around upright and looked like a humanoid life form. In this installment the facehugger attaches to a dog, so this "new" alien creeps around on all fours and is a tad smaller than its humanoid brothers. Otherwise its a good ol' alien.
The movie is with its flaws though. Some arguable inconsistencies. Most notably the one that comes to mind is how long an embryo takes to "hatch." I dont think there was ever a time table established in the first two films, but it sure does take a while for Ripley's to blow. Also some of the effects with the alien running around aren't the greatest, but there is very little screen time attributed with it so I never found it bothersome.
There were a lot of cool shots I thought worth pointing out. The side shot with Ripley and the Alien meeting face to face was priceless. The look on her face says it all. The back and forth from the speech to the dog was good, and the finale with Ripley was awesome.
I absolutely loved the ending. A fitting end to a wonderful trilogy....if it was the end. I just found the music as she gives her final leap holding the alien in her chest and falling to her death so....moving. I felt such relief...its finally over for her. All the movies link to one another in succession and Ripley has been there through it all. It's a nice relief to see that her suffering, if you can call it that, is over. Well done. (applauds)

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Aliens (1986)
Assholes and Elbows! Arguably the best line in the film, but I also heard it quite often throughout my childhood. Aliens is the HUGE sequel to Alien. James Cameron I think was cut out to make sequels. There isn't a sequel he's made that was shit. Aliens, T2, Rambo 2 (screenplay). I think in a lot of ways they're almost better than the original. T2 for sure.
Aliens takes place directly after the events of the first film...with some 57 years inbetween, but nothing changes. Aliens is more an action flick than an alien movie, but I can hardly complain. The only thing this film lacks is the terror and scare of the original. Most of this film has to do with the big weapons, the marines, and of course a deeper explanation of the alien cycle.
The design of the aliens in this film far surpasses the first in my opinion. I like how the tops are more bone-like. Of course the grand finale showcases the new "Queen" alien. Its so awesome its almost indescribable. Its just massive, vicious, and at the same time....a mother. It reacts like any mom would if a mysterious woman came into their house and burned all their children. I'd be tempted to take off and kill that bitch myself.
The special effects are awe-inspiring. Everything about it is done so well and with such great detail you tend to forget that they are models or a backdrop. I really didn't like Ripley's hair in this one. Not to sound like a girl, but come on...that hair cuts for women in their 80s. Is there something weird about how she just loses all her hair from the first one to the third one? Oh well what can you do?
There are plenty of things going on, but the first time I saw this film I thought it took too long to get to the aliens. I may have been impatient that night, but there's an hour of setup to the story and finally we see the aliens. There's nothing wrong with that, but its the truth. Once we do see them though, its one constant shit storm after another. People die, shit breaks down, the rescue fails, the power fails, the place is gonna blow up. I love it!
Any fans of the original Alien or any of the others definately needs to have this in their collection. I recommend you check it out and enjoy the ride.

BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Alien (1979)
Often imitated, NEVER duplicated. Paragraphs with the ** hold spoilers. Alien is one of those movies that damn near changes your life. I have seen the films dozens of times, and still to this day it terrifies me. Sometimes knowing what's going to happen is almost as bad as NOT knowing whats going to happen.
Alien is as suspenseful as it is creepy. For a film made in the late seventies, its insight into the future is more plausible than any other interpretation. Star Trek paints a pretty picture for humanity where I Am Legend (recently comes to mind) shows a more grim future. It's a group of workers aboard a space ship doing their job for the company, constantly bitching about money. Sound familiar? Well its basically what I do everyday, and what I'm guessing the majority of the population does. They work for a higher power. In this case they stumble across an unknown creature that quickly takes shape and kills most everyone aboard.
The settings in the film are amazing. If anyone has ever held glimpse to any kind of refinery or similar venture you'd know that it tends to be a creepy place. Not much room for sunshine and flowers when there's work to be done. The ship itself is built just the same. No lights or happy sayings on the wall to give anyone pleasure. Just steel grate floors and endless tubes that line the walls and ceiling. Except for where they eat, there's at least a hint of humanity in that room.
Now we come to the Alien itself. Simply put....the most terrifying thing you'll ever see. You show anyone in their pre-teens this film...guaranteed to give them nightmares...but its almost necessary as to desensitize them to the genre. I remember as a kid having horrible dreams about that creature. Still to this day I'm sure I'll have a dream or two regarding that thing. Its so perfect, and so scary that it just etches its way into your brain.
The only problem that I hold against this movie is the ending. One can hardly mock the special effects. Some of it does look pretty bad, like the scene with Ash's head, or the terribly outdated computer equipment, but you can hardly hold it against the film being it was made in the late 70s. I find it disturbingly accurate actually. I'm sure they were on a tight budget, but sometimes making something outta nothing is more precious then the opposite.
**Back to my rant on the ending....early on the film, Ripley was willing to sacrifice her coworker for the good of the rest of the crew, but in the midst of the most pivital time in the movie while they are trying to escape....she spends all her time looking for the damn cat. I have a cat myself, and I love her sooooo much....but if a 6-foot alien is on my ass, goodbye. Not only that, I really didn't understand why the alien just sat there in the bulkheads watching Ripley get dressed and slowly make her way to the console. I'd think that thing would've been all over her from the first time it heard her. Maybe it was full, or comfortable, I don't know....but I didn't like it.
All in all though, Alien is a film that every fan of horror needs to see. It put a massive stamp on the genre and created an entire SLEW of imitators. If you like the film in anyway, I recommend the entire series. Some argue that 3 really blows, but I actually think it's one of the better ones.
